I was listening to my ipod in the car last week with no problems and the day after my computer wont recognize it and when I turned it on it said I had absolutely no music but it showed me that I had used 55 out of 80 gigs so the music is on there....what happened to my ipod and can it be fixed? Is there a way to gain access to my music?

Take a look at Corrupt iPod Classic. From the sound of things the database on the device has been wiped. Restoring the device should resolve things, but if you don't have all the media in your local library you will want to try to retrieve that before attempting a restore. Once you've recovered the media you may also need to manually reformat the drive if the iTunes restore process doesn't clean up the disconnected media properly.

The first section.

Recover media from a manually managed iPod

What follows are tips for restoring your iPod, but if it is the only location currently hosting some of your media then the first task is to try to extract it. See the user tip Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for some recovery tools. Most third party tools will probably require the device to have a functioning library however the method given in Recover media from an iPod should work as long as the device still shows up in Windows Explorer or Finder.
